Art of Racing in the Rain
Garth Stein
This book is great on so many levels. A customer recommended it to me, saying, "If you like dogs and car racing, then you'll love this book." But it is so much more. It has soul, love, devotion, philosophy, sadness, laugh-out-loud humor, and, yes, car racing -- all told from Enzo's (the dog!) point of view on the eve of his death. I loved it.
Secret Life of Bees
Sue Monk Kidd
Soon to be a movie, if you haven't read this book yet, do it now. Beautifully written -- Sue Monk Kidd is an extraordinary storyteller. You will fall in love with the characters. Set in the American South in the 60's, this is a powerful story of how love transforms our lives.
United Tweets of America: 50 State Birds
Hudson Talbott
This is a laugh-out-loud book and a great way to spark kids' interest in U. S. history, geography, and wildlife. Check out the Mississippi Mockingbird as Elvis. :-) Hilarious!
Book Smart
Jane Mallison
A worthy book to expand your knowledge and enjoyment of some of the most compelling books of all time. Written with a month by month plan, I felt as if I were taking a class with an engaging literature professor; my own private teacher giving me historical notes, key themes, characters and reading tips. Fascinating!
Wave
Suzy Lee
A uniquely illustrated wordless book about a simple day at the beach. Young children will have fun sharing what comes next as the pages turn. Great sequencing skills for beginning readers.
